LATEST BERNAFON PRODUCT NEWS

Bernafon launches Veras 9, 7 and 5; the next generation of ChannelFree™ hearing systems.

Advanced and proven hearing system technology no longer needs to be exclusive to the premium hearing aid segment.

Veras 9, 7 and 5 offers the Bernafon proprietary high-resolution ChannelFree™ signal processing combined with advanced multi-environment technology and binaural communication in three price categories.

The result is a hearing system that supplies excellent auditory scene fidelity, best speech understanding and a clear, natural sound. Veras 9, 7 and 5 is extremely versatile with six instrument styles at three levels of performance and price.

Wireless Bluetooth® connectivity to sound sources such as cellular phones, TV’s and landline phones via SoundGate makes Veras an effective and flexible hearing aid system.

Bernafon introduces Vérité, a premium receiver in the ear hearing instrument. Vérité combines the proprietary Bernafon ChannelFree™ signal processing and multi-environment technology along with wireless connectivity to deliver truly outstanding performance from a hearing aid.

Vérité’s high-resolution performance is based on Bernafon’s proprietary ChannelFree™ signal processing that stays true to the acoustic signal by treating it as a whole, rather than artificially breaking it into channels.

Bernafon believe ChannelFree™ processing working at phonemic speed to precisely amplify even the shortest elements of speech with gain applied 20,000 times a second without dividing the signal into channels or bands will make the Vérité hearing aid a huge success.

The multi-environment technology in Vérité controls an array of advanced adaptive features that automatically adjust to changes in the sound environment providing effortless awareness of the surrounding auditory scene. Vérité offers wireless binaural communication between the hearing instruments that supplies a realistic experience of the auditory world.

Vérité’s data logging and learning help to determine the best settings possible for each individual. Vérité hearing aids also offer outstanding wireless connectivity to external sound sources such as mobile phones, TV’s, music players and computers via the new SoundGate.

GN Resound

GN ReSound is part of a group called Great Nordic that was established in 1895 and has its headquarters in Denmark. ReSound, is today represented in almost every country in the world. The company draws on a vast pool of resources at many technology centres where their researchers work to apply technology to real human situations. Key to the ReSound philosophy is the recognition that technological innovations make sense only if they deliver actual user benefit. This company has been responsible for a number of hearing industry firsts: WDRC (Wide Dynamic Range Compression) broke new ground for sound processing. DFS (Digital Feedback Suppression) was the first system to effectively eliminate the whistling associated with hearing aids and the introduction of “Air” open-fitting hearing aids in 2003 avoided plugging the ear canal and sound became more natural than ever.

Oticon logo
Oticon

Oticon began life in 1904, when Hans Demant began importing hearing aids to Denmark. When Hans died in 1910, his son William took over the business. In the 1920s William continued to develop the business and managed to secure the sole agency for Acousticon hearing aids for the entire Nordic Region. In the 1940s, World War II made supplies difficult so William began producing his own instruments. The Oticon TA was the first Danish hearing aid to be produced, and it was released in 1946. By the 1970s Oticon was located in a large production facility at Thisted, Copenhagen. Sister companies were established in Holland, USA, Norway, Switzerland and Germany. Later that decade Oticon opened its own independent research centre at this facility. Technological advancements in the last 15 years have enabled Oticon to introduce a number of groundbreaking products. In 1991, MultiFocus was the world’s first fully automatic hearing aid. Adapto launched in 2002 incorporated Artificial Intelligence and was awarded the European Information Society Technology 1st Grand Prize. In 2006 Delta made its debut with revolutionary lines that completely changed the face of hearing aid design and in 2010 Agil Pro, Oticon’s most sophisticated product ever was introduced. Agil Pro’s Spatial Sound 2.0 helps users organise sounds, know where they come from and make sense of surroundings effortlessly and intuitively.

LATEST PHONAK PRODUCT NEWS

May 2010 - Phonak introduces state of the art technology across all price segments.

With CORE (Communication Optimized Real-audio Engine) Phonak offers an industry leading platform for audio processing. All of Phonak’s current products are based on the CORE microprocessor, one of the fastest and most powerful processors in the hearing aid market place. It enables innovative technologies such as SoundFlow (automatic functionality), WhistleBlock (feedback control) and ZoomControl (control of hearing focus).

A highlight CORE feature is SoundRecover, which expands audibility, improving hearing of conversations in a restaurant, the laughing of children, birdsong or even quiet whispers. In addition, CORE enables the wireless connection to communication or entertainment devices such as telephones, TV sets, MP3 players or a PC.

With the introduction of the new Versata Art and Certena Art hearing aids, the benefits of SoundRecover (Frequency Compression) have been extended across most of the Phonak product range. High performance hearing aid solutions can now be tailored to individual lifestyles and budgets.

October 2009 - Phonak introduces the smallest wireless hearing system in the market (Audeo SMART).

Audéo SMART offers maximum performance and unlimited connectivity to a wide range of communication and entertainment devices such as telephones, TV sets, MP3 players and PC’s, thus enabling demanding users of hearing systems to lead an active life.

Audéo SMART also offers flexible control options: It can be operated directly at the ear via a push button which can be configured as a program selector or a volume control. Alternatively, the hearing system can be operated via the myPilot remote control.

ZoomControl allows for easy selection of hearing focus direction, especially beneficial in the car or in other situations in which the hearing aidwearer cannot face the speaker.

October 2009 - Phonak introduces the smallest non-wireless CRT hearing System (Audeo MINI).

Audéo MINI is the latest and worldwide smallest non-wireless CRT hearing aid system. It is almost invisible when worn behind the ear and impresses with its tiny size and attractive design. In addition, the new housing supports directional beamforming technology, for crystal-clear speech intelligibility and for improved suppression of background noise.

Audéo MINI is very easy to live with; thanks to the multi-program automatic SoundFlow, the hearing system adapts to the ever-changing environment in real time and without the need to push any buttons. Audéo MINI is ideal for users who seek a high-performance yet discreet and easy to use hearing aid solution.

BestSound™ Technology

The number one requirement of people who wear hearings aids is better hearing. However, any means of improving hearing must come with good sound comfort to ensure that patients effectively use their hearing instruments throughout the day.
Unfortunately, in many cases, hearing (maximising audibility) and comfort are not always supportive of each other. In order to find the optimum balance between better hearing and sound comfort, one must take into account each patient’s individual preferences and needs.

The new BestSound™ Technology offers three new technologies designed to meet these specific requirements: SpeechFocus, FeedbackStopper, and SoundLearning™ 2.0.

SpeechFocus was developed to foster better hearing. It continuously analyses the environment for the most favourable speech-to-noise ratio, and automatically selects the microphone configuration which has the potential to offer the best speech intelligibility for the user, regardless of whether speech is coming from the front, behind, or the side.

FeedbackStopper facilitates the optimum sound comfort. This technology achieves effective feedback suppression by combining the proven Acoustic Fingerprint Technology with a new Transient Frequency Shift, eliminating feedback before it is even noticed by the user.

SoundLearning 2.0 is a sophisticated learning algorithm which best adapts to the user’s Individuality. Automatically steered by an intelligent acoustic situation detector, SoundLearning 2.0 allows the user to teach preferred gain, compression, and frequency shape independently for various acoustic situations.

BestSound™ Technology is available in four different performance levels.

LATEST STARKEY PRODUCT NEWS

July 2010 - Starkey Laboratories introduce the new Otolens, a brand new completely in the canal (CIC) hearing aid that they claim is 100% invisible. Normally CIC hearing aids are designed to fit directly into the canal and are considered to be one of the most discreet type of hearing aids available.

The Otolens is designed to fit further in the canal beyond the second bend, meaning it will be completely invisible.  The Otolens will be fitted with the Starkey Pure Wave Feedback Eliminator and will also have the added capability to be remotely programmed via a touch tone mobile phone, allowing volume and program changes.  This technology is adapted from the recently introduced IQ technology

These new hearing aids will provide benefit to users with mild to moderately severe hearing losses and are expected to be suitable for approximately 70% of ear canals.

June 2010 - Starkey Laboratories launches an exclusive limited collection of hearing aid accessories called "Hearrings" in association with leading jewellery designer Victoria Glyn. The "Hearing" enables hearing aid users to wear discreet hearing aids that are accessorised with a piece of jewellery.

April 2010 - Starkey Laboratories, Inc.is excited to introduce S Series™ iQ, featuring Voice iQ, a new noise reduction and speech preservation system. Developed over three years at the Starkey Hearing Research Center in Berkeley, Calif., Voice iQ is noise reducing technology so fast and smart it reduces noise between syllables of speech — overcoming one of the most common complaints of hearing aid wearers."Voice iQ truly takes hearing aid technology to a new level," said Jerry Ruzicka, President of Starkey. Voice iQ uses a two-part algorithm — dynamic voice identification paired with a spectral noise control that calculates appropriate gain on a per channel basis. The result is unprecedented sound quality, ease of listening and intelligibility of speech in noise. Coupled with InVision Directionality, which boasts the highest diffuse field DI scores and lowest operational noise floor available, Voice iQ is proven to preserve speech understanding in noise. The system classifies inputs every six milliseconds and adapts every 20 milliseconds, to diminish noise between syllables.
